Gotsu !!! A simple yet delicious side dish for Ven Pongal. Well do not forget to toss your VenPongal with a Tadka of roasted cashews and Curry leaves in Ghee. And drizzle it enough with Ghee. Which will then complement the Gotsu ;)
Ingredients:
Way to go:
- Three big tomatoes thinly diced
- Two large onions finely chopped
- Brinjal - Three to four green or purple bringjal chopped into small cubes
- Moong dhal - 3/4 cup cooked and mashed (Optional)
- Tamarind Juice (Thick) - 1 cup
- Mustard seeds - Half a spoon
- Sesame oil - Two to three spoonsful
- Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- Sambar Powder - 2 Spoons
- Turmeric powder
Way to go:
- Heat oil in a kadai, and when hot add in mustard seeds. Let the mustard seeds crackle.
- Now add the Curry leaves and saute for few seconds in low heat.
- Now add the chopped onions and saute in medium heat until they turn translucent and raw smell goes off.
- Add diced tomatoes and saute them in medium heat, tossing them very often to avoid getting burnt at the bottom. Cook it till it is mushy.
- Add the chopped brinjal. Toss well and add in few cups of water and cook it in high flame.
- After few mts of cooking, add in the tamarind juice
- Ensure all veggies are cooked and gets mushy and blends well with each other. And raw smell of Tamarind goes off.
- At this point, add the Turmeric powder, Sambar Powder and salt to taste.
- Cook the mixture for two to three minutes.
- Now add the boiled moong dhal to this mixture. This step can also be skipped.
- Let the entire stuff brew for two to three minutes.
- Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves if you fancy.
- Now serve it hot with Ven Pongal. Enjoy !!!
